Every cartridge has a voltage where it performs best — enough heat to vaporize the oil fully, not so much that it scorches. Adjustable-voltage batteries let you find that point instead of living with a fixed setting.
As a starting point: begin around 2.5V and step up until the draw feels right. Thinner distillates usually sit lower; thicker, high-viscosity oils often want 3.3V or more, especially in winter. A preheat function (most adjustable Yocan models include one) softens thick oil before the first draw of the day, preventing weak pulls and clogging.
